Summon a New Spirit

No matter your political affiliation, last night was an important night for our country. And whether your candidate won or lost, I think we all realize how monumental this is in the history of our nation and how encouraging it is for our future. We've all been told growing up that we could become President someday. But how many of us really believed it?
I personally watched the election coverage with my cat Scout. Mr. Bunny was at work. I don't remember what channel I was watching, but they went to commercial and came back saying that Obama will be President. That happened fast! And I hadn't expected to react so strongly, but I started to cry. Seeing everyone dance and sing on TV, it was clear to me that this has been a healing event for our country. There is a rocky road ahead, and it is easy to be optimistic at this time when we have just broken through such a major barrier. But it makes me proud of America that this day has come. I think it changes the way we are seen in the global community.
Here is a crowd reacting in Australia.
This was written on a store front window in the Netherlands.
America is such a special country in that it is founded on ideals. Our country is a melting pot of people who have come together as a nation in the pursuit of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The world now sees that our claims that anyone can make it in America are well-founded.
The crowd looks on in Rockefeller Center in New York.
This is a proud day for our country. An American Dream has come true. And Obama's speech was inspired and inspiring.
This is Ann Nixon Cooper, the 106-year-old lady that he was talking about. It's kind of cool to think that after all this lady has seen and been through in her lifetime, she is now featured as a central theme in a presidential acceptance speech.
America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do. So tonight, let us ask ourselves - if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made? This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time - to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth - that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes We Can. -Barack Obama
Have a great day!

P.S. Tomorrow I will be back to blogging about celebrity gossip and my Robsession. But today is a special day and this story stands alone.
